The PDO Thread Procedures

Sculptra Pre/Post Treatment Instructions

The process of the PDO Thread procedure is straight-forward and mimics that of dermal filler injections (Juvederm, Restylane). The skin area is first cleansed with an antimicrobial soap and then marked where the threads will be placed. A topical numbing cream is then applied and the threads are then gently inserted just underneath the skin with a tiny needle or blunt cannula (about the size of a sewing needle). The threads themselves are slimmer than fine fishing line. Once all the threads are placed, antibiotic ointment is applied to the insertion points and ice packs are given.

The number of threads needed is determined by the area requiring correction and the amount of laxity present. The procedure is quick (usually 30-60 minutes), virtually painless and with short recovery.

What will I look like afterwards and are there any side effects?

It is normal to have swelling, bruising, and soreness (particularly if the cheeks are lifted) for one week. We recommend that patients use ice packs after the treatment and patients can return to normal activities including work the next day.

Most common side effects are localized tenderness, swelling and bruising for a few days after the procedure. As with any procedure that breaches the skin barrier, infection is possible but unlikely. Occasionally sutures may become visible or skin irregularities (tissue ‘tenting’) occur however this is easily corrected.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

If you are having a lift using Barb threads, you will see immediate results. If you are having Smooth or Twist threads inserted, these may take 4-8 weeks to see results since collagen must be induced and up to 12 weeks before you can fully appreciate the benefits of these threads.

Outcomes last about the same timeframe as derma fillers, which is 9-12 months, but can vary by patient depending on such things as age and skin quality and thickness.

Finally, the wait is over! PDO Threads are long over-due in the field of non-surgical rejuvenation and they are a welcome addition to the realm of Aesthetic Medicine. Thread lifting is rapidly gaining world-wide recognition as an effective, non-surgical option for treating facial laxity.

Melasma

Joint Pain Injections Pre/Post Treatment Instructions

PRP Hair Loss Pre/Post Treatment Instructions

Melasma

Having even-toned skin is desirable. But some people suffer from dark patches on the skin that seem to never go away. This can have a huge effect on the self-esteem of these patients. This skin condition is known as melasma and affects thousands of people every day.
What Causes Melasma?

Researchers do not fully understand what causes melasma. It is tied to individuals with darker skin tones than lighter tones. Changes in hormones like estrogen and progesterone have been linked to the cause of melasma. Another potential cause of melasma is excessive sun exposure.

How is Melasma Treated?

To get a melasma diagnosis, a visual examination from one of our board certified providers should be done. Sometimes, our team may want to perform small tests in order to rule out other causes of the patches. For some women, the melasma may disappear on its own. This is usually when it is caused by hormonal changes. However, this skin condition can last for years and years if no treatment is used.

Our team can recommend the best treatment for each patient based on their symptoms, causes, skin type, and lifestyle.

Joint Pain Injections Pre/Post Treatment Instructions

After Your Treatment

  • Your Insertion site has been covered with two layers of bandages. Remove the outer pressure bandage 5-7 days post procedure. The inner layer is a Steri-strip dressing which should fall off on its own.
  • Do not take tub baths or get into a hot tub, swimming pool or ocean for 5 days. You may shower but do not scrub the site until the incision is well healed which takes about 7 days).
  • Do not engage in strenuous exercise and water activities for 5 days for women and 7 days for men. Strenuous exercise, hot tub and water activities may cause the pellet to come out, especially in the first 72 hours after insertion.
  • The insertion site may be uncomfortable for 1-2 weeks for women 2-3 wks for men. You may experience bruising, swelling, and/or redness of the insertion site which may last from a few days up to 1-2 weeks for women and 2 to 3 weeks for men. If there is itching or redness you may take Benadryl 25 mg. orally at bedtime. Caution – this can cause drowsiness! It is normal to have pinkish/bloody discoloration of the outer bandage. If you experience bleeding from the incision, apply firm pressure for 5 minutes. Call if you have any pus coming out or persistent bleeding not relieved with pressure (not oozing)
  • Please call to schedule re-insertion as soon as symptoms that were relieved from the pellets start to return. Most men will need reinsertion of their pellets in 4 months. Most female will need re-insertion of their pellets in 3-4 months.
  • Please have your labs rechecked:
6 weeks after your insertion for females
4 weeks after your insertion for males

Joint Pain Injections Pre/Post Treatment Instructions

After Your Treatment

  • When can I resume physical activity?
The most important part of any stem cell therapy is adhering to your post-procedure restrictions, which are covered before your procedure. For the procedure to have the best chance to yield lasting benefit, our physician strongly recommends:
    • No anti-inflammatory medications for a minimum (preferred) 6 weeks
    • Rest for the first 24-48 hours, but do not lie sedentary
    • It is expected to have increased pain for the first 2 days after the injection. Some degree of discomfort may last up to 2 weeks. If you are in an excessive amount of pain, please call our office.
    • DO NOT soak the affected area(s) in a bathtub, pool, spa, etc. for 48 hours after the procedure. Showering is acceptable.
    • DO NOT ice the injected area for at least 2 weeks after the procedure. The treatment causes an inflammatory response as part of the healing process. Using ice will inhibit the process.
  • Recovery Summary
In the early stages of recovery after injection (weeks 1-4), you may start with gentle myofascial release, kinesiology taping,
gentle stretching, ROM, isometrics, and mat-based core stabilization exercises. Stationary bike, elliptical, and swimming are
acceptable early in the recovery phase. Avoid traction, heavy load or resistance, and Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
(NSAIDs) the first four weeks of recovery. Ultrasound/STIM/TENS units are not suggested for therapy during this time.
In weeks 4-8, you can progress to more activity and gradually add more resistive load to workouts. This is a great time toincorporate core yoga, Reformer Pilates, TRX, and light weights, with a gradual increase in resistance (50-75% of pre-
injection workouts). Avoid any forceful rotation or manual manipulation.Remember that good healing during the first two months after the procedure will give you the best chance for success.
The cells are fragile, and you need to be cautious that you don’t overload them or cause too much stress or shearing on
them. Have your physical therapist call us with any questions.
In general, we always try to look at more than one injured part. As a result, it is very likely we will recommend other
types of conservative care to restore normal biomechanics. This might include physical therapy, gait/grip
strengthening, different types of myofascial release, and specific home exercises.
Every case is unique and side effects differ for each person. Some patients may experience more pain and inflammation
than others; please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Certain joints and body areas can be more painful to
inject, such as the ankles/thumbs/toes. Expect varying degrees of pain in the first few days after the procedure and treat
with ice and prescribed medication if necessary. Contact your provider if your severe pain lasts for more than a few days

Skin Tag

Skin Tag

Skin Tag

Skin Tag

Harmless growths that hang off the skin

They are almost always harmless, and most people experience them, but they can still require professional treatment when they become bothersome. This is usually because they occur at areas where they can rub or chafe against clothing or other skin.

The cause of skin tags isn't well known, but it's believed that regular chafing and skin-on-skin contact is a factor since skin tags most commonly occur where skin rubs against itself. It's also believed that mild forms of human papilloma virus might be associated with skin tag growth, as well as a hereditary component. Although many different people get them, they are most common in older women.

How are Skin Tags Treated?

Skin tag removal can be performed with a quick and easy treatment session. First, the skin tag is numbed with a topical anesthetic. Then, a few different treatment options can be utilized to remove the growth. These can include:

A

Surgical excision

This method involves carefully cutting off the skin tag using a scalpel or scissors after numbing the area with a topical anesthetic.

B

Electrocautery

Utilizing heat, electrocautery effectively burns off the skin tag. Applying controlled heat to the base of the tag, causing it to detach.

Skin Tag

Acne

A common inflammatory skin condition that occurs when pores become clogged, resulting in whiteheads, blackheads, cysts or red bumps.

Acne is one of the most common conditions we treat at Art of Dermatology. Acne occurs when the skin becomes clogged with oil, dead skin cells, or bacteria, causing inflamed, red or puss-filled bumps on the skin's surface. Hormonal changes, genetics and certain medications can also cause acne. These bumps mostly appear on the face, neck, chest and back and range from mild to severe.

Warts

Skin Tag

Warts

Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.

Warts are noncancerous rough bumps that form on the skin and develop when HPV enters the body through a cut or break in the skin. These raised, skin-colored growths can develop anywhere on the body and look like a blister. They're harmless, but many of our patients prefer to remove them because they can be spread through contact and also . . . they just don't want these warts hanging around on their skin!

Common warts are typically found on hands, fingers, around the nails, or on the back of hands. Plantar warts appear on the bottom of the feet and can become painful without treatment.

How is it treated?

There is no cure for the virus that causes warts, but our team can treat warts as soon as they appear to prevent growth and spreading.

BBL - BroadBand Light Therapy

BBL - BroadBand Light Therapy

BBL - BroadBand Light Therapy

BroadBand Light (BBLTM) technology utilizes powerful pulsed light to enhance photorejuvenation treatment. Your provider can treat a variety of skin issues caused by age and sun exposure.

What is BBL used for?

BBL is a form of laser therapy that improves and brightens your complexion by addressing skin issues and boosting collagen production. Collagen is a protein that serves to form your skin, among other things.

BBL therapy often targets the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands, while it can be used to treat any location.

What to expect?

You should feel minimal to no discomfort during treatment as your provider gently glides the BBL HERO hand piece across the skin. Simultaneously, a sapphire on the end of the applicator's device will keep the skin cool and comfortable. After treatment, most patients will continue to feel warm for an additional 30 to 60 minutes.

Steps in the procedure

1

Skin Preparation

Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or impurities.

2

Applying The Solution

Apply a cooling gel to the treatment area and possibly a topical anesthetic. You'll wear safety shields, goggles, or glasses to protect your eyes.

3

Absorption

You may briefly feel a warm or “rubber band snap” sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas.

4

Timing

Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of procedure performed

BBL laser treatments for conditions such as:

Sun damage

Freckles

Rosacea

Vascular Lesions

Pigmented Lesions

Redness

Melasma

Hyperpigmentation

Is the BBL effective?

Within a few days, you should see a difference in your skin. Blemishes and blood vessels often resolve within a few weeks. Within two weeks following your first treatment, your skin may feel smoother, look more even, and bright. You may notice less discolorations, tiny wrinkles, and pores.
